In reflecting on my own path and personal growth, I realize that my
growth has been all about relationship: having healthy, honest, compassionate,
deeply connected relationships with myself and with the world.
I believe the path to being available to and creating those relationships
is through:
- Being Open & Curious
- Being Present
- Cultivating Compassion
- Having the Courage to Live Fully
- Holding Your Vision
- Creating Space for What Matters
- Enlisting the Support of Others
- Developing & Deepening Relationships
Learning is a lifelong process of growing and stretching, of being curious, of seeing possibilities and becoming more comfortable with who we are and who we want to be.
It all begins with being open.
Being Present
Take a moment to just stop, and breathe.
This moment is all there really is.
In every moment, you have a choice. Are you choosing to show up and be present?
Cultivating Compassion
We are all each other's teachers. Every person whose life touches mine has some gift to offer, something to teach me.
When you see someone being angry or mean, do you also see their suffering and pain?
Are you compassionate with others? Perhaps more importantly, have you learned to be gentle and forgiving with yourself?
Having the Courage to Live Fully
Do you have the courage to live intimately with your own life and the world?
Living fully means being willing, indeed committed, to standing in the fire. It means being willing to look within, speak your truth, listen openly, and embrace each moment fully, as it is.
Holding Your Vision
Creating a better future starts with the ability to envision it.
If today could be absolutely any kind of day, what kind of day would you choose to have today? What would your life look like if you were living your dream life?
Follow your bliss!!
Creating Space for What Matters
Do you spend your time and energy on things that truly matter?
By creating space in your life, you can allow new possibilities to emerge.
Enlisting the Support of Others
As Lao Tzu so eloquently put it, "Be with those who help your being."
Requesting the support of others takes tremendous strength of character, and shows a strong commitment to what you are trying to accomplish or how you are trying to be.
Developing & Deepening Relationships
The path to developing and deepening relationships with others and with the world is to begin by looking within. Are you loving and compassionate, gentle and patient with yourself? Do you love and accept yourself as you are, in this moment?
I have found that by looking within, I can begin to take responsibility for how I show up my interactions with others. I believe that all relationships - but particularly relationships with our parents/children and our partner/spouse, bring a constant flowing of opportunities to understand ourselves better.
I hope you find the quotes on these pages either reaffirm the healthiness of the relationships you have or help you develop a more clear vision of relationships you want.
Relationship with Yourself
-
Your most important relationship, the one to unwaveringly focus on maintaining
and deepening, is your relationship with yourself.
-
Our life touches, crosses paths with, the lives of others for a reason.
There is something we can learn from everyone in our lives. Our interactions
help us each to see what we otherwise cannot, or will not, in ourselves.
- Being Connected
- Look in the Mirror!
- Uncovering
- The Invitation
-
The relationships with our parents, siblings, and children can be our
most challenging relationships. Understanding and remembering that we
cannot control anything outside ourselves can help us to let go of painful
dynamics and build healthy, deeper connections with our loved ones.
